VPI Transformers, also widely known as Ventilated Dry-Type Transformers or Open-Wound Transformers, are high-performance power solutions that are particularly dominant in the North American market. Unlike standard models, CEEG VPI Transformers utilize advanced insulation technology to deliver superior safety and durability.

In 1999, CEEG pioneered the use of DuPont NOMEX® insulation paper in dry-type transformers, establishing our first VPI dry type transformer product line. This innovation led to a strategic partnership with DuPont in 2001. Today, our products are fully compliant with Transformer ANSI compliance and IEC60076 standards,making CEEG a top choice for global industries.


Our VPI step up transformers were the first in China to achieve Class C insulation certification by CSA and have successfully passed KEMA E2, C2, and F1 tests. Designed for efficiency, our VPI dry type transformer units delivered to Rio Tinto achieved a remarkable 99.26% energy efficiency—exceeding standard models by 8-15%—earning CEEG the "Most Innovative Supplier Award" in 2012.

Application Scenarios

A. High-Density Public Spaces (Malls, Hospitals, Airports)

  • The Problem: Fire safety is paramount in crowded areas. Smoke and toxic fumes are the primary causes of casualties in fires.

  • The CEEG Solution: Our transformers use Nomex paper, which is self-extinguishing and flame-retardant. Even at 750°C, it releases no toxic halogens or smoke, maintaining over 92% visibility to aid safe evacuation.


B. Heavy Industry & Energy Sectors (Metallurgy, Petrochemicals, Data Centers)

  • The Problem: These sectors face uneven loads and frequent surges. The equipment must survive heat spikes that would destroy standard transformers.

  • The CEEG Solution: CEEG equips transformers with Class C (220°C) insulation using NOMEX® for both main and auxiliary windings. Class C insulation raises the temperature tolerance window, which directly improves resistance to thermal aging, short-duration overloads, and repeated heat spikes common in heavy industry and energy sectors.


C. Harsh Environments (Mines, Cement Plants, Nuclear Power)

  • The Problem: Airborne dust and radiation can degrade standard insulation or cause short circuits.

  • The CEEG Solution: The separated disc coil structure prevents dust accumulation. Furthermore, the multi-stage vacuum pressure impregnation process creates a sealed, dense insulation layer that is insensitive to dust and radiation, ensuring low-maintenance longevity.


D. Humid & Coastal Areas (Ships, Ports, Offshore Platforms)

  • The Problem: High humidity and salt spray can penetrate inferior insulation, causing short circuits and rapid corrosion.

  • The CEEG Solution: CEEG uses advanced Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) technology. Unlike simple dipping, our process uses alternating vacuum and pressure cycles to force the impregnating varnish deep into the coil windings. This cures into a solid, moisture-proof barrier that seals the conductors against salt fog and humidity, meeting strict marine anti-corrosion requirements.
